Driving tips in adverse weather conditions

The most important thing for drivers to remember is to SLOW DOWN!

Recognize that you are, in fact, driving in poor conditions and that you must adjust your driving behavior accordingly.When driving in hazardous conditions, remember to:

  1. Slow down
  2. Increase your following distance
  3. And be cautious  for drivers around you to do something stupid

Rain

Wet roads are dangerous. Many drivers only think that snow is dangerous, but wet roads can be quite treacherous. Rain-slicked roads are more slippery, so leave extra space between you and other cars, because rain decrease your braking ability. If possible, try to stay in the middle lane – water tends to pool in outside lanes. In any case avoid pools of standing water; they could be hiding holes in the pavement or you can loose road grip. After every driving through standing water tap you brake pedal to dry on you brake rotors.

Hydroplaning

Hydroplaning happens when the water in front of the tires builds up faster than the vehicle’s weight can push out of the way.
